How to play

Welcome to the Brookweald CC World Cup Predictor. It is a club fundraiser, a bit of competition for the summer, and open to members, family and friends. Here is how it works.

The basics

  • £10 to enter, one entry per person.
  • Sign in with your email, pay by card, you are in.
  • Predict the score of every match across the 2026 World Cup, plus a short bonus slip on the tournament outcome.
  • A live leaderboard runs throughout the tournament. The top three at the end of the final share the prize pot.
  • Entries close at kick off on 11 June 2026.

Where the money goes

Half of every entry fee goes to the prize pot, half goes to Brookweald CC.

The prize pot is split between the top three on the final leaderboard:

  • 1st: 60% of the pot
  • 2nd: 25% of the pot
  • 3rd: 15% of the pot

The pot scales with how many of us play. 30 entrants is a £150 pot. 50 entrants is £250. 100 entrants is a £500 pot. The more of us who play, the bigger the prize and the more the club raises.

A safety net. The competition only runs if we reach 30 entrants by 10 June 2026. If we do not, every entry is refunded in full automatically, with nothing deducted by the club.

Match predictions

For every match in the World Cup you pick a final score. You can change a prediction right up until that match kicks off. After kick off it is locked.

You do not have to fill in all 104 predictions on day one. Predict in batches whenever you like, as long as you stay ahead of the next kick off. Any match you have not predicted in time scores zero for you.

The bonus slip

Before the tournament starts you pick five tournament-level outcomes. The bonus slip locks at the opening kick off and cannot be changed afterwards.

  • Tournament winner
  • Runner-up
  • Golden Boot winner (top scorer of the tournament)
  • The stage England get knocked out at
  • The total number of goals in the final

Scoring

Match by match:

  • 5 points for an exact scoreline
  • 3 points for the correct result (correct winner, or correct draw, but wrong scoreline)
  • 0 points otherwise

Bonus slip:

  • 20 points for the tournament winner
  • 10 points for the runner-up
  • 10 points for the Golden Boot winner
  • 10 points for England's exit stage
  • 5 points for the exact total goals in the final

Scoring is calculated automatically from the official full-time score for each match. For knockout matches, extra time and penalties do not count towards the predicted score, only the score at the end of normal play.

Leaderboard

A live leaderboard updates roughly every 30 minutes during the tournament. Final standings are taken at the conclusion of the final.

If two or more entrants finish on the same total, the tie is broken first by the number of exact-score predictions, then by bonus slip total. If still tied, the prize money for the affected positions is split equally between the joint winners.
